It Started With a Simple Thought: I Could Make That Better.

Before Spencer Cole Creative Studio, my professional background was in communications and broadcasting. I worked as a community liaison at Community Action, helping bring departments together, improve communication, and find better ways for people and programs to work alongside one another.

It was work I genuinely enjoyed, and I was proud of what we were accomplishing.

Then, when I was five months pregnant, changes in government priorities led to my position being eliminated. Although unexpected, becoming a stay-at-home mother was something I had always been open to. My husband encouraged me to embrace the opportunity, and I was ready to give it a try.

What I didn’t realize was that this new chapter would lead me somewhere I never imagined.

A Little Curiosity Goes a Long Way

As I settled into motherhood, I began paying closer attention to the products I purchased for my children. I loved beautiful, unique things, but I also valued quality, functionality, and thoughtful design.

Too often, what I received didn’t reflect the quality I thought I was paying for.

I still remember purchasing an adorable reversible baby skirt made from the cutest, funkiest fabric. Originally priced at $80, I purchased it on sale for $60. I loved the concept. It was versatile, offered two looks in one, and could dress up something as simple as a onesie.

But when it arrived, the fabric was stiff, the quality was disappointing, and I couldn’t help wondering why something so simple had to cost so much without delivering better craftsmanship.

I remember thinking, I could make this better.

So I decided to try.

And I did.

That first skirt sparked something in me. I began looking beyond how things appeared and started thinking about how they functioned. Could something serve more than one purpose? Could it be more comfortable, more durable, or simply more useful?

What began as a desire for better quality became a personal challenge to see what I was capable of creating.

Each project brought new skills, new confidence, and even greater curiosity.

And before long, I couldn’t stop creating.

Thoughtful by Design

As my creativity grew, so did my appreciation for simplicity, natural materials, and intentional design.

I’ve always believed that the things we create should serve a purpose. They should be thoughtfully constructed, versatile enough to be enjoyed in more than one way, and made with materials chosen for their quality, feel, and function.

I’m drawn to simple, timeless designs rather than things that are beautiful for only a season.

To me, quality isn’t about how much something costs or how elaborate it looks. It’s about the thought, care, and craftsmanship behind it.

That philosophy continues to guide everything I create.

Growing Along the Way

What began as a creative outlet during motherhood gradually grew into something more.

Making baby products gave me an opportunity to create, unwind, and share handmade gifts with the mothers in our local mom groups. There was something therapeutic about working with my hands and creating things that were both beautiful and useful.

Over time, those little projects grew into a baby boutique, with handmade accessories, gift sets, and clothing finding their way into gift shops and the homes of other families.

But as my children grew, so did I.

The needs of my family changed, and naturally, so did the things I wanted to create. It became harder to stay inspired by baby products when that season of life was no longer part of our everyday world.

At the same time, I was becoming more involved in our schools, serving on PTO boards, and helping a local nonprofit with fundraising and special events.

Suddenly, I found myself exploring an entirely different side of creativity.

Designing props, developing event concepts, finding sponsors, organizing fundraisers, and figuring out how to turn ambitious ideas into something real became some of my favorite challenges.

I discovered that I enjoyed solving the problems just as much as creating the finished product.

And somewhere along the way, I realized something important.

My creativity didn’t have to stay in one category.

As my family grew and our lives changed, Spencer Cole was able to grow and change right along with us.

A Fresh Perspective

Some of my favorite projects begin with a challenge.

I’ve always enjoyed looking at something from a different perspective, especially when others have struggled to find a solution. Sometimes all an idea needs is a fresh set of eyes, a little curiosity, and someone willing to explore what’s possible.

Whether it’s finding a better way to construct a garment, developing a functional product, or bringing an unconventional idea to life, I genuinely enjoy the process of figuring things out.

I don’t believe creativity is limited to what we already know how to do. Often, the most rewarding projects are the ones that require us to learn something new.

Because sometimes the best question isn’t whether something can be done, but how we might make it happen.

Today, Spencer Cole Creative Studio is a reflection of everything I’ve learned along the way: a love for thoughtful design, quality craftsmanship, creative problem-solving, and the endless possibilities of bringing an idea to life.

From heirloom garments and custom clothing to one-of-a-kind props, large-scale fabrications, product development, and creative workshops, my work continues to evolve with every new opportunity.

I believe every great project begins with a vision. Sometimes that vision is simple. Sometimes it’s ambitious, unconventional, or something that’s never been done before.

That’s where I love to begin.

I want every client to feel confident that their ideas will be heard, their vision will be understood, and their project will receive the creativity, care, and attention it deserves.
